Lister-Jaguar - Brian Lister and the cars from Cambridge by Paul Skilleter

Lister-Jaguar - Brian Lister and the cars from Cambridge is about the sports-racing cars produced by Brian Lister from 1953 to 1959. It includes some US content. (a short report by your humble webmaster)

If you speak Jaguar Cars, you already know Paul Skilleter and his well researched books. If you speak Lister-Jaguar, you are about to have a new favorite book. Lister-Jaguar, Brian Lister and the cars from Cambridge by Paul Skilleter. If you are a VSCCA member, you might have met Brian Lister at Lime Rock Park a few seasons ago where he shared first hand the stories of his life. Brian contributed greatly to this effort by Skilleter. The list of other contributors is in itself impressive. The previously unseen photos and unshared stories make this a must have for any Lister-phile or for anyone who is a fan of the great sports cars & racers of the era.

VSCCA members may also remember the great Knobbly Listers of Sid Silverman and looking in back issues of the Vintage Sports Car you will be reminded of the years that Dan Ghose drove the Cunningham White Lister #292 in our events.

The format is highly photo intensive and, beyond the cars, it covers the important people from Archie Scott-Brown to Briggs Cunningham.

The content, best stated from the back cover blurb, goes like this: "The Lister-Jaguar was Britain's most successful big-engined sports racing car of the late 1950s, especially when driven by the brilliant Archie Scott Brown - the handicapped motor racing hero with film star looks. The story of Brian Lister and the Lister-Jaguars evokes the late 1950's era of glorious front-engined sports cars driven by the top drivers of the day. It is told often through the words of the car's creator, Brian Lister himself, who has also contributed unique material from his own archives. This augments many photographs from Ted Walker's Ferret Poto- graphics, most never published before, and rare Kodachromes taken by 'Dick' Barton, Lister's chief race mechanic. The Lister-Jaguar won at almost every circuit in Britain and, entered by Briggs Cunningham, was virtually unbeatable in America. It continued to keep the Jaguar name in the forefront of sports car racing long after the D-type became obsolete. The green and yellow cars from Cambridge were simply the best of their kind, and added lustre to Jaguar's name and to the reputation of British engineering."

Contents include:
